Varanegra ham originated from pork from Alentejo has doubled its sales after being presented to Europe at the Frankfurt international contest, disclosed SEL, the owner of the product. Varanegra already has eight gold medals (three being international medals) since the beginning of its production in 2016.
“When the Portuguese strive to do anything, we have the ability to reach the top of the world and according to our history, this is how it happens regarding sports, tourism and culture and in everything; that is why SEL – with its Varanegra brand – is committed to produce the best Alentejo Pork ham (named in Spain as 100% Iberian Pork)”, the company stated in a press release. The biggest secret is the Alentejo pig raised in the fields in Alentejo, where it has the perfect conditions for its production.
Portugal imported 9325 tons of ham from Spain in 2018, a 22.2% increase over the previous year, according to data from the National Meat Industry Association of Spain (Associação Nacional de Indústrias de Carne da Espanha – Anice).
“SEL aims to help Portugal reduce its dependence on Spain for ham (Spanish Jamón), reducing imports, thus improving the national and local economy.
We aim to be a national and international reference in Alentejo Pork Ham (100% Iberian Pork) ”, underlines the company.
