Carob World is a Portuguese start up located in Faro, in the heart of the Algarve. The company develops, produces and markets innovative carob-based food products.
Currently, it has three product ranges – flour, tablets and spreads.
History says that agriculture of this species arrived in southern Europe about 7,500 years ago through the Mediterranean Sea. Among the goods brought in from the Middle East and North Africa were carob seeds that proliferated throughout the Mediterranean basin.
Currently, carob is produced in several Mediterranean countries. Portugal stands out as the largest producer of carob in the world although it is not bathed by the Mediterranean Sea*.
The carob is harvested and cleaned by hand, and Ripened by time and heat. The pulp is crushed and carefully separated from the seeds after natural drying. The pod and seeds are then used for multiple purposes.
Carob is rich in calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, fibers, vitamins A and B, among many other important nutrients for the proper functioning of the body and mind.
