This Autumn, the CVR (Comissão Vitivinícola Regional – RegionalWine Commission) of the Dão region has created five Dão circuits. The European Enotourism Day, which is celebrated on November 11th, is an invitation to “pack and travel to the region”, challenges the Dão’s CVR.
The five circuits of the Dão wine route are spread over 16 municipalities, from Arganil to Aguiar da Beira.
There is a route through the Viseu region, Silgueiros and Senhorim and another by Azurara and Castendo. There is one through the Besteiros area and another through Alva area. The fifth route suggests a tour through the Serra da Estrela region.
The starting point of the visit should be the Welcome Center of the Dão Wine Route, located in the Solar do Vinho do Dão, in Viseu.
There, the wine lovers are welcomed with a wine tasting from different producers that make up the Route.
You can also buy some wines from the region, get to know the documentary collection of Dão’s CVR, which contains an archive of the wine commission from 1935 to 1965.
The Welcome Center of the Dão Wine Route (Rua Dr. Aristides Sousa Mendes in Viseu) is open from Tuesday to Friday, from 10h to 12h30 and from 14h to 18h, and on Saturdays from 10h to 12h30 and from 2h to 7h. Groups of more than ten people must make a prior appointment to rotadovinho@cvrdao.pt.
The Dão’s CVR is the entity that represents the interests of the economic agents involved in the production and marketing of wines or other wine products that have the Dão’s Controlled Designation of Origin (Denominação de Origem Controlada, DOC).
These activities cover the whole circuit of production and marketing of wines. Dão’s CVR also has certification and authentication role for wines, through the attribution of guarantee stamps, and is responsible for its promotion.
