The white wine of ‘Gaivosa Grande Reserva 2016’, is already available in the market. This is a wine made from the castes Gouveio, Malvasina Fina, Avesso and Arinto, from vines over 20 years old. “This wine provokes an unexpected complexity from the early days” said the producers, the Alves de Sousa family. “At first glance it shows a straw yellow color, showing the floral side of the Gouveio grape variety, not without the slight touch of lychees and a great mineral flavor. The wood flavor is the result of a 12-month stage in French oak barrels and appears subtly in the set increasing the freshness and elegance of the wine, “they reveal.
Since the beginning of the 90’s, the Alves de Sousa family, guardian of the emblematic Quinta da Gaivosa for several generations, decided to use their best grapes to produce DOC Douro white wines, setting them to be reserved for the large Porto wine houses.
The first investments led by Domingos Alves de Sousa were developed in the vineyard by transferring the best white varieties from Quinta da Gaivosa to the right terroirs, looking for the altitude, sun exposure and characteristics of the most suitable soils. It was also introduced a viticulture adapted to the new challenge, understanding the potential of the wines. The long experience of Domingos Alves de Sousa now shared with his son Tiago Alves de Sousa and his daring vision of the region has allowed Quinta da Gaivosa to maintain a wine profile intact over the last 30 years.
Due to its high gastronomic adaptability, the Gaivosa Grande Reserva 2016 it’s a wine ready to be drunk, also assumed for its aging potential and mature ability in a bottle for the next 8 to 10 years. If opened already, it is suggested to be served at an average temperature of 12ºC 30 minutes after being opened. The new white of Quinta da Gaivosa can be found in the main markets of the country, under the umbrella of OnWine Distribuição Nacional.
