This is the beginning of a new adventure for Santos&Seixo. The growth of this family business opened doors to a new reality and last June Santos&Seixo acquired Encosta do Sobral, in the sub-region of Tomar.
“When this opportunity arose and we visited Encosta for the first time we were absolutely in love with what we saw and what we tasted. We knew at the time that this was the direction we wanted to go”, explained Pedro Seixo, the company’s general manager.
“This decision reflects the growth the company has had in the early years and was the next major step”, he added.
Encosta do Sobral makes up 60 hectares of vineyards with a winemaking capacity of 1.5 million bottles. “The name itself brings us immediately to the slope of these vineyards, with many similarities to the Douro, with rocky and schist soils and intense sun exposure. Here wines of high concentration, rich and with character are produced”, Santos&Seixo highlighted in a press release.
“The biggest challenge was adapting to the characteristics of a new region being so close to the vintage. But the consistency in quality and the evidence given by Encosta makes us calm and confident, which we owe to the Engineer Carlos Sereno for all his passion in the creation and development of this project during the first 20 years of Encosta do Sobral”, underlines Pedro Seixo.
Encosta do Sobral wines are now added to Santos & Seixo portfolio, such as ‘Santos da Casa’, ‘Rotas de Portugal’ and ‘Duquesa Maria’. The winemaking of Encosta do Sobral wines will remain under the responsibility of the winemaker Pedro Sereno.
