Cajado Real DOC Alentejo White 2016, from Santos & Santos, has just won the Gold Medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2018, which took place this year in Beijing, China.
Cajado Real White, made from the Antão Vaz, Arinto and Roupeiro varieties, is produced by the Agricultural Society of Fonte Coberta, an estate located about 5 km south of the city of Évora, in the Alentejo, which is part of the Santos & Santos group.
Herdade da Fonte Coberta estate has a total area of 220 hectares, of which approximately 170 hectares are currently planted with vines. The vineyard coverage is divided among various plots, planted with a mix of varieties carefully selected to allow the production of high quality wines.
The average annual production envisaged when in full production will be about 200.000 liters of white wine and 850.000 liters of red wine.
Santos & Santos group, founded in 1977 by the brothers Adílio and Armando dos Santos, parents of current members and administrators, has its headquarters and vineyards in Torres Vedras, Lisbon district, but in 2001 decided to invest in the Alentejo lands to produce quality wines from a region most appreciated by the Portuguese, and also by many foreigners, when choosing the best national wines.
Santos & Santos has an extensive vineyard divided between Quinta da Cidadoura and other lands in the municipality of Torres Vedras, making a total of approximately 250 hectares of vineyard. Due to the excellent soil and climate conditions, these vineyards allow the production of high quality grapes.
The export represents, currently, 25% of the turnover of Santos & Santos, with its wines present in about 20 countries.
