The Deputy Minister of Economy – Pedro Siza Vieira, representing the Prime Minister, was in Vialonga – Vila Franca de Xira, where he inaugurated the new equipment for glass bottle filling from Cervejeira da Vialonga, with the latest technology that provides more flexibility and more environmentally friendly, and reduces water and energy consumption. This plant, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year (the plant was built in 1968), today called Sociedade Central de Cervejas e Bebidas (SCC) invested about 8 million euros in this new line.
This investment is part of the modernization plan of Sagres and “doesn’t end here,” said José Luís da Mata Torres, director of the supply chain and administrator of the brewery, the first to speak, after the kick-start of the Minister. The new “line” located at the northern top of the Plant received dozens of guests this day, including the Chairman of the Board of Directors of AICEP – Foreign Trade and Investment Agency – Luís Filipe de Castro Henriques, CEO of SCC Group – Boris Miloushev, representatives of the embassies of the Netherlands and Germany, some employees (older and some younger, chosen from the bottling line) as well as the mayor of Vila Franca de Xira – Alberto Mesquita.
Mata Torres, highlighted the more than 140 million euros invested by the company in the last 5 years, not only in the Vialonga plant, but also in Sociedade Água do Luso and in Novadis, the distribution company.
AIMED AT NON-RETURN GLASS BOTTLES
The Minister Pedro Siza Vieira was particularly pleased with the company’s investments for an effective decarbonization that responds to climate change, referring to the new filling line.
This new line is specialized in non-return glass bottles, with service and technology providers from the German KHS, has capacity to fill 55 thousand bottles per hour, and also allowed environmental improvements: an annual reduction of up to 22% of CO2 consumption, a saving of 12,600 kWh of electricity and an annual reduction of 96% of water consumption. At the end of the event, after his speech, he pointed out that the problem of lack of labor is an obstacle for the companies, but a good sign for the country”, remembering that at the time of the crisis unemployment had reached 17%.
It is especially worthy of note that the new line is more environmentally friendly and Siza Vieira highlighted the investment and was particularly pleased with the company’s investments for an effective decarbonization that responds to climate change. This new line is aimed at non-return glass bottles.
