The objective was assumed by ANP – National Association of Producers of Pera Rocha, despite the production losses of around 25%, observed during some days of August.
The association reveals that “for the current 2018/2019 harvest year, the ANP has set itself the goal of reaching a total value of 100 million euros in exports, which represents an increase of 25% over the value of international sales of this fruit in the previous year”.
The ANP will be present at the Berlin Green Week, between January 19 and 28. This is one of the most important international trade fairs dedicated to food and agriculture and brings together over 1600 companies and organizations from all over the world every year.
Between January and November 2017, Rocha pear exports exceeded 82.4 million euros, an increase of 19% compared to 2016. With the planned promotion and dissemination actions, the ANP expects to reach 100 million euros exports in 2019, equivalent to a 21% growth over the current value of international sales of this fruit, unique in the world and only produced in Portugal.
Brazil, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Morocco are, in this order, the main destinations of the Rocha pear and have absorbed 81% of the value of exports between January and November 2017. The German market, in particular, recorded a growth of 90%, close to 8.2 million euros in exports in the same period.
The Rocha Pear Global Promotion Project in the External Markets of the ANP is co-financed by Compete 2020, within the scope of the Competitiveness and Internationalization Operational Program. It provides for an overall investment of EUR 430,902, financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) at 85%, and includes promotion and communication actions.
