The world’s oldest canned fish processing industry has just innovated with the launch of an online store.
Ramirez’s digital platform is available, at an early stage, for shipments in the European market, but management’s goal is to make it global. “The project is born to respond, in the context of the so-called new economy, to the challenges of the digital consumer, especially the generation of millennials, who prefers to shop in virtual stores and that by 2025 will represent 47% of the world’s active population”, the company explains in a press release.
“This is the creation of a modern distribution channel that aims to complement the traditional channels”, explains the management advisor who manages the project. Luís Avides Moreira points out that the online store ensures “quick access to a very diversified range of products and brands not fully available in traditional distribution channels at a competitive price”. Ramirez’s online store brings together a wide range of canned fish, including several ready-made meals, easy ordering and payment and quick delivery. “This is another contribution to the continuous modernization of the sector’s procedures, to the forefront of customer service”, says Luís Avides Moreira, who predicts that the company’s digital channel (online store and other digital platforms) will represent 10% of the company’s turnover until 2025.
Ramirez, the oldest fish canning industry in the world currently working, produces more than 60 references. From tuna to sardines, and also mackerel; cod, squid, octopus, mussels or anchovy fillets. Currently with 200 employees, it produces 50 million cans/year and invoices €30 million/year.
