Quinta da Pacheca’s wine tourism complex in the heart of the Douro vineyard is the absolute Portuguese winner of the ‘Best of Wine Tourism 2020’ awards, a worldwide competition promoted by the ‘Great Wine Capitals Global Network’. The prize was awarded by the international jury in a ceremony that took place in the French city of Bordeaux. “This is another recognition that fills us with pride and validates the bet made to create a different wine tourism destination in the Douro region”, says Maria do Céu Gonçalves, co-owner of Quinta da Pacheca.
The company’s wine tourism project saw an even bigger boost in 2018 with the opening of wine barrels, suites in the form of giant “pipos” which are already an ex-libris in offering accommodation in the region. Quinta da Pacheca will be equipped with a new wing of the current ‘The Wine House Hotel’ within a few months with 24 additional rooms. Additional features include a spa with wine therapy treatments, an outdoor pool, a new restaurant and a new tasting room with a larger capacity. “The Douro still has a lot to grow in tourism because the potential is huge. And Quinta da Pacheca is at the forefront to lead this growth process,”says Maria do Céu Gonçalves.
The Best of Wine Tourism had already awarded Quinta da Pacheca three other prizes: in 2017 it won in the category of Best Wine Restaurant; in 2016 in the category of ‘Innovative Experiences in Wine Tourism’ and in 2015 in the category of ‘Accommodation’.
