Quinta da Gaivosa has just launched its first Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It is available in the domestic market in limited quantities, says the producer. With the launch of the first Quinta da Gaivosa Extra Virgin Olive Oil the Alves de Sousa family once again showed their passion for the land and the Douro almost three decades after the first wine was created.
With a strong presence in winemaking, Quinta da Gaivosa’s terroir is marked by rugged slopes and rugged soils and is also present in over 80-year-old shale olive groves. “Planted at an altitude of 500 meters and with sun exposure to the west this piece of land meets the ideal natural conditions for the production of a high quality olive oil,” says the Douro producer.
At the base of this first olive oil from Quinta da Gaivosa are olives of the Cobrançosa, Galega and Madural varieties, the latter very rare, produced in organic an regime. The harvest is done manually with the help of comb retailers, and the selection is careful and rigorous. “The result is a superior olive oil, marked by aromas with notes of green apple, chopped grass, tomato and almond. The strength of his personality is especially felt in the mouth with a good balance between the bitter and the spicy which ends in a harmonious and prolonged finish ”, also informs the producer.
“After some experience with our best olive trees we felt that this was the right time to include in our range a high quality olive oil capable of bringing to the table a fresh approach to Gaivosa terroir, always true to tradition and authenticity” , explains Domingos Alves de Sousa.
The premiere of Quinta da Gaivosa Extra Virgin Olive Oil is marked by limited quantities and is exclusively distributed by OnWine Nacional. It can already be found in the main wine cellars in the country.
