Sales of wines from the Setúbal Peninsula continue to grow in the national market and the exports in strategic countries such as Brazil and the U.S. also maintained the growth trend in 2018, says a note from the Setúbal Peninsula Wine Commission (CVRPS – Portuguese designation). Up to September this year, the Setúbal Peninsula Wines registered the largest increase (2%) in the market share of certified wines in volume, and also increased by 1% in value.
“According to the consultancy company Nielsen, 15% of the certified wines consumed in Portugal in the first nine months of this year were from the Setúbal Peninsula, being the third wine region of consumer preference. In the foreign markets, in comparison with the January-October period, the company highlighted the export growth to Brazil (37.9%) and the U.S.A. (48.11%)”, reports the CVRPS.
For Henrique Soares, “the success and increase in sales of Setúbal Wines in 2018 is a reflection of the great quality of the wines and the recognition of the same by consumers in Portugal, Brazil in the States United States and a little all over the world, after a strong growth in 2016 and 2017 ” The president of the Regional Wine Commission of the Setúbal Peninsula also highlights the challenges of “increasing the average price and strengthening the presence of Setúbal Peninsula wines in the main markets”.
At the top of the countries that most import wines from the Setúbal Peninsula are Brazil, Angola, China, USA and Canada, which together imported almost three million liters by October 2018. The Wine Commission of the Setúbal Peninsula (CVRPS) intends to continue with investment in the Brazilian and American markets, in which last year they invested around 200 thousand euros in actions to promote and publicize the region.
