The ‘Selezione del Sindaco’ 2019 competition, held in Frascati, Italy, awarded the Setúbal Moscatel 10 years from Adega de Palmela with the Grand Gold Medal and the Setúbal Moscatel DOC 2016 from Adega de Palmela, Villa Palma Reserve Red 2015 and Vale dos Barris Castelão 2017 with Gold Medals.
This year 32 grand gold medals and 358 gold medals were awarded. Of the 32 medals, 11 came to Portugal and 21 were awarded to Italian wines.
Nonetheless, the end of May was marked by the presence of Palmela wines in Beijing and Macau, China.
At the beginning of June, there were more than 600 wines and nearly 80 producers that were featured in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Brazil, including the wines of Adega de Palmela.
The Adega Cooperativa de Palmela began its activity with 50 members and with a production that did not exceed 1.5 million liters. Nowadays, production exceeds 8 million liters, and the wine cellar has the capacity to reach 10 million, with 75% being Red Wine, 15% White Wine and 10% Moscatel de Setúbal Wine.
It currently has 40 employees and 300 members that have a combined area of 1000 hectares.
A substantial part of its production is bottled through five automatic lines with a capacity of 10.000 bottles/hour.
