The cloisters of Pousada de Viseu were the scene of the 17th Ceremony of the Confraria da Cerveja, an event that enthroned close to 60 new Confreres. Among the personalities enthroned at this ceremony are the mayor of Viseu, António Almeida Henriques, the Ambassador of the Netherlands, Nienke Trooster, the mayor of Coimbra, Carlos Cidade, the actor Pedro Lima, the journalist Rosália Amorim, the surfer Nic Von Rupp, the humorist Diogo Batáguas, the model Ricardo Guedes, as well as illustrious figures of the country’s business framework, who became, on that date, Confreres of Honor of the Confraria da Cerveja.
The new confreres, chosen from among the brewers’ collaborators, public figures, opinion leaders and partners of the Portuguese brewing sector, thus became ambassadors of beer in Portugal, making a commitment to contribute to its dissemination, prestige and dignity, in accordance with the mission of the Confraria to promote, publicize and celebrate the benefits of beer in its many facets.
After the enthronement ceremony, the new and current Confreres traveled the streets of Viseu, toasting the city with beer, accompanied by the Real Tunel Académico of Viseu. The Igreja da Misericórdia Church of Viseu was the monument chosen for the group photograph, whose tradition is to be next to a landmark or iconic building of the city that hosts the enthronement ceremony. Finally, the dinner entertainment was in charge of the musician and actor Tiago Garrinhas and the band 27 Saints.
Inspired by the tradition of the Confreres, in the recognition of the importance of Beer as a symbol of friendliness, sharing and celebration and in the defense of beer art as a major activity for the Portuguese economy, Confraria da Cerveja was born from the dream of seven Portuguese public figures of the beer sector.
Since 2003, the Confraria da Cerveja has enthroned more than 660 members among Confreres of Honor, Protective Confreres and Master Confreres.
