The cheese from LACTOVIL – Dairy Products of Trancoso will now display the seal “Best Cheese Award 2019 – Cheese Competition of Portugal”. The winners were announced at a ceremony at the Lisbon International Fair in the 11th edition of the event, promoted by the National Association of Dairy Industry (ANIL).
210 cheeses were in competition, a record number from which 23 winners were selected. 46 cheeses were also entitled to honorable mentions.
LACTOVIL has thus recognized its work with the distinction of Best Normal Cured Cow Cheese for “Star Flower”.
The reference company in the dairy sector in Portugal was also distinguished with three honorable mentions for Flemish Cheese “O Lavrador”, Buttery Sheep Cheese “Pastor da Beira Alta” and Buttery Sheep Cheese “Flor da Estrela”. It should be noted that LACTOVIL collected the only two mentions in the Buttery Sheep Cheese category and were considered by most of the panel of tasters as the most appreciated.
The distinctions resulted from a rigorous, objective and technical analysis, under blind evidence, made by 25 judges at the ALS Controlvet / Fullsense premises in Tondela. The jury was made up of representatives from industry, control and certification bodies, educational institutions, restaurants and gastronomy, distribution and the media.
