Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo’s winery staged the launch of red and white wines as follows: ‘Rego’, ‘Rego Reserva’ and ‘Rolha’. The brands created by the businessman José Rego are destined for the markets of Brazil and China. The launch of the wines was attended by Manuel Felício, Bishop of Guarda and by the president of the municipality, Paulo Langrouva.
Two brands were introduced in the Tasting Room of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo’s Winery. ‘Rolha’ brand is available in white, red and rosé, and ‘Rego’ brand, which was described by António Madeira, president of the winery, as “a wine with a lot of quality and also with Reserve options. A white reserve from 2017 and a red reserve”.
The white reserve is made only with regional grape varieties, according to António Madeira, “they are endogenous grape varieties, planted in the region since the 12th century by the monks who inhabited the Convent of Santa Maria do Aguiar” and which result in “unforgettable wines”, added the president of the winery.
The businessman José Rego, born in Figueiró da Serra, county of Gouveia, has been passionate about the wines of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo for five years. “After meeting the president of the company, he became even better acquainted with the wines and believed in them and in the good people who work in the cellar”.
Regarding the destination markets for these wines, the businessman said he was “doing a concerted and export-oriented work, especially for Brazil, China and the United States. We chose to develop these brands so we can be adapted to this type of market”.
The businessman also said that he is working on the launch of another brand resulting from this partnership with Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo’s Winery.
