Three years later, there is a new harvest of the sparkling Alvarinho Quintas de Melgaço Old Reserve that hits the market with only 580 bottles available. Quintas de Melgaço, a project that brings together more than 530 small and medium producers in the municipality of Melgaço, presents itself as one of the main ambassadors of the Vinho Verde Region. After three years of depleted stock, the producer presents ‘03’, an Alvarinho sparkling wine, made using the classic method, with a minimum aging of 36 months in bottle.
“Three years after the harvest, when opening the bottle, ‘QM Old Reserve 2017’ is clear, citrus in color, with fine and very delicate foam. The body is full, but the bubble is thin and with a persistent cord. Its fruity aroma, with notes of orange and tangerine, is accompanied by nuances of dried fruits”, presents the company’s management, adding that it is an excellent company for seafood, fish or roasts such as piglet or kid.
“During these 26 years, our commitment has always been to the quality of Alvarinho. We tested and experienced, from the vineyard to the winery, new expressions of the variety in search of a world-class quality. And, luckily, we’re getting there. The sparkling wine ‘QM Old Reserve 2017’ is an amazing sparkling wine, faithful to Alvarinho, comparable with top wines from around the world”, says Pedro Soares, the managing director of Quintas de Melgaço.
This is the big news in the producer’s new harvests’ portfolio for this year. From the range of wines being launched, the highlights are ‘QM Alvarinho 2019’ and ‘QM Rosé 2019’.
