The Vila Galé group has invested 3.5 million euros in an olive oil mill in Alentejo through Santa Vitória, a group’s company dedicated to the production and marketing of Alentejo wines and olive oils. It was inaugurated on October 19 in the property where the group owns Santa Vitória and the rural hotel Vila Galé Clube de Campo. With an investment of 3.5 million euros, the new mill now offers guests and the general public daily guided tours, through which it will be possible to learn more about the various stages of production or discover what distinguishes the different types. It also has a tasting room and a show-cooking area ready for groups, company events and gastronomic demonstrations.
Currently the olive grove in Santa Vitória extends over 200 hectares and among the olive varieties are Galega, Cobrançosa, Cordovil, Picual, Arbequina and Arbosana. To the olive reception yard whose cleaning and washing line can process 50 tons per hour, is added the extraction room with equipment that can grind up to 10 tons of olive per hour, the storage room with 35 circular capacity deposits ranging between 5,000 and 30,000 liters and the bottling, capping and labeling line with a rate of 1,200 bottles per hour.
The olive pit that results from the production serves as fuel to the water heating boiler and the wastewater is sent to decantation pits and then used for agricultural use.
