Friopastel is based in the village of Tábua and founded thanks to the tenacity of João Gonçalves and his wife Isabel Gonçalves to which their daughters Vera Gonçalves and Sara Gonçalves are now joining. The company celebrated its twentieth anniversary in a festive atmosphere, gathering more than two hundred people among collaborators. , customers, suppliers, public and private entities.
The company organized a party at the modern facilities of its business park-based frozen food company. For many years the strategic vision of this entrepreneur was to conquer the national market and then the international markets – the homesick markets and bet on SISAB PORTUGAL as a showcase and outlet of its vast products which quickly conquered the flavors of importers, like France in the first place and now to many more markets. The presence at SISAB PORTUGAL has been a constant year after year what helped to increase business in foreign markets. As a family business, João Gonçalves and his family receives the orders, reaching new customers and developing new products. And there are guaranteed consumers because the products are of the highest quality. Hence the success! João Gonçalves, the managing partner, explains ”that the company extends its activity through a diversified market, from the USA, Canada, Europe,“ exporting seventy percent of production ”, selling exclusively to distributors.
Savory, sweet, the well-known custard tarts, grain ryegrass, products of “unparalleled taste and quality” are some of Friopastel’s “brand images” that have a young and dynamic team of 27 employees.
Once again awarded the PME Excellence 2018 status (award given to small or medium companies), which distinguishes the company for its solidity indicators, excellent economic and financial performance. Friopastel is undoubtedly a reference for all who seek Tradition, safety and comfort.
Turnover of two million euros/year. 70% of production is exported to international markets
“At this moment we make about two million a year”, reveals João Gonçalves. What is the secret? A lot of work, certainly, but also a success due to a large family unit because, besides João Gonçalves, the “team” leader is reinforced by his wife Isabel Gonçalves and his two daughters, one responsible for sales and the other is food engineer. “Soon we will start with the expansion of the facilities and we can do twice what we currently have” adds João Gonçalves. It should be noted in this respect that this factory has 1,500m2 of covered area, recently increased to 2,360 m2. On this birthday the family was proud because they started from scratch and have accomplished a work that does not stop here.
Particularly touching was the surprise that the daughters made to João Gonçalves and his wife, presenting a film about the life of the company praising Mário Loureiro who in his speech stressed being proud “to have an industrial unit like this in their land and a company of excellence, which has won several awards ”, congratulating those responsible for this journey for the investment they have made and for the future ahead”.
In a season of pre-cooked, frozen or ultra-frozen meals, Friopastel is evidenced by not being an industrial production, but a traditional production, which combines good raw materials, know-how and above all the affection in what they do. Which of the food companies in Portugal afford the “luxury” of exporting 70% of what they produce? João Gonçalves always believed that the market was taking its products across borders and got it because he knew that was going to be affirmed by the high quality of his products. This was one of the keys to success, the other was the dedication of this family to their “fourth child” the company Friopastel that has had a team of great collaborators for twenty years.
