Exports in the agri-food sector increased by 6% in the first half versus the same period last year and annual growth has been between 6% and 7%, said the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Food, in a statement to Lusa – Portuguese News Agency.
“Exports have grown steadily in recent years, 6%/7% a year. In the first half of this year we are already growing 6% in comparison with the same period of 2017. In 2017, we recorded an export value of 6.6 million euros, which really shows our company’s growing interest in international markets”, said Luís Medeiros Vieira after a visit to the Portuguese stand at the trade fair of the agri-food sector in France.
According to the official, the presence of Portuguese companies at international trade fairs “is extremely important” as a way of developing the dynamism of the sector.
Despite not going further, the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Food said the Government is committed to opening 53 new international markets. “These ‘dossiers’ are difficult to conclude”, he said.
After visiting the fair, the minister assured that Portuguese businessmen present “new products” and with innovation, both at the level of image and at the level of developed flavors, stressing that companies “are attentive to market trends”.
Regarding the impact of the Portuguese presence at international trade fairs, Luís Medeiros Vieira noted that all businessmen “were satisfied” and growing, despite some difficulties.
