“It was a year with a remarkable performance in terms of export value, where PDO Alentejo wines with their eight sub-regions have strongly boosted that growth,” says the CVRA (Alentejo Regional Winegrowing Commission ) President.
According with the ‘Comissão Vitivinícola Regional Alentejana’ (CVRA), last year Vinhos do Alentejo exports have increased 11.9% when comparing with 2016.
Also, according with that Comission, Vinhos do Alentejo exports “have overcome 65 million euros, revealing a marked grow of 26% on wine PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) Alentejo”.
“The amount exported grew 2.3% due to the 11% increase on the PDO sells, while the Regional presented a decrease of 0.1%”, says the CVRA.
“It was a year with a remarkable performance in terms of export value, where PDO Alentejo wines with their eight sub-regions have strongly boosted that growth,” says the CVRA president.
Francisco Mateus also assumes that the Vinhos do Alentejo investment “is increasing both on foreign markets and on the international recognition of the Alentejo as a quality wines’ production region.”
Angola, Brazil, USA, Switzerland and China markets remain as the main destinations for Alentejo wines, representing 59% of the exported value and 50% of the quantity.
