With family traditions of beekeeping since 1898, it has been producing Serramel honey since 1974. In a habitat in the Serra da Malcata, a natural reserve with 21,000 hectares, Euromel bees collect their products in a place of low human activity, where nature is found intact. It was there that Jorge Almeida Lima’s great-grandchild, Frederico Horgan, established himself with a brother, after deciding to recover the old hives that, in 1898, Jorge de Almeida Lima explored in Quinta do Lameiro.
In larger and more modern facilities Frederico Horgan, his wife and son, pack, market and export varieties of pure honey and other bee products. The company includes the entire range, from production of around 30 tons per year, to the purchase of honey from other domestic beekeepers, packaging and marketing. In 2014 a new project emerged with the production of Beirabaga sweets and almonds.
