The ambition to make quality rosé sparkling wine from Quinta do Gradil began in 2015.
“From then on it has been aging, with the delicacy that a sparkling wine demands, the wine tastings were enthusiastic for the enology team, led by António Ventura”, stated the company in a press release.
The work gave rise to Maria do Carmo Brut Sparkling Wine, a sparkling rosé of Touriga Nacional.
“It revealed so much vitality and personality that we decided to honor it with the name of Maria do Carmo, the heiress of Quinta do Gradil, which in the middle of the 19th century marked the history of this property and the region”, explains Quinta do Gradil.
Dona Maria do Carmo Romeiro da Fonseca was born in Sanguinhal in 1829 in the heart of a family related to wine production and trade. At the age of twenty she inherited Quinta do Gradil, a property that she was able to expand and develop over time.
For Luís Vieira, administrator of Quinta do Gradil, this sparkling starts “a new era for Quinta do Gradil”. “This year we were committed to recovering our origins, valuing our historical heritage and we are only a few months away from presenting an unparalleled project that further enhances our wines, our heritage, always in harmony with the vineyard, in an unique experience of Wine Tourism in Portugal”, the company points out.
