The ‘Cartuxa Reserva 2012 Sparkling Wine’ produced by the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation has just been awarded a gold medal in the ‘Effervescents du Monde 2019’ competition in Dijon, France, in which 564 sparkling wines from 22 countries participated. In this important worldwide sparkling wine competition the jury of 100 specialists awarded 23 gold and 165 silver medals in 2019 to sparkling wines from various countries of the world.
Only three medals were awarded to Portuguese sparkling wines in this edition. Two golden ones: to Cartuxa Reserva Sparkling Wine 2012 ’and‘ Bairrada Sparkling Wine, Original Reserva Bruto Branco Baga 2017 ’, from Positive Wine. The sparkling ‘Marquês de Marialva Bical & Arinto Reserva Brut 2015’ from the Cantanhede Winery received silver medal.
‘Cartuxa Reserva 2012 Sparkling Wine’ is a base wine produced from rigorously selected Arinto grapes harvested in the ideal ripeness to produce a sparkling base wine. “Fermented in controlled temperature, made in French oak barrels and aged on fine sludge for six months with periodic batonnage. The second fermentation took place in a bottle by the classical method followed by aging on sludge and intercalary batonnages for five years in the cellars of the Cartuxa Monastery”, informs the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation.
