Caxamar will expand the facilities of its factory in Ourém, stated the company administrator to the Hipersuper.
“We’re talking about a project that will more than triple our (cod) soaking capacity with a focus on deep-frozen soaking. At this moment, we have around three thousand square meters. The factory will more than double”, mentioned Gonçalo Bastos to that newspaper.
According to the administrator, the land for the expansion of the factory was acquired in 2018 and the company wants the project to start up as quickly as possible, since even with the expansion made in 2013, the factory has the capacity overrun.
“We have partners who want to grow with us. And we grow with them. And we need this expansion”, he told Hipersuper.
“Right now we have a main structure, which is divided into desalted deep-frozen and dry salted. And we are planning to make an extension, everything is already formalized. We already acquired the land last year. It is right in front. And everything will be connected. It will not be just a building. But there will be aisles everywhere in the buildings”, he added.
The factory is expected to be fully operational within the next two years.
Caxamar was founded in 1989 by Manuel Mendes Bastos, with the objective of wholesale and retail sale of dried salted cod. In 1999 a cod storage and drying unit was built at Casal de Frades Industrial Area, in Ourém. The modernization and expansion made in 2013 focused on the entire production unit, having integrated the existing dry salted cod production line and a new line for desalted deep-frozen production as well as new storage and logistics units.
In May this year, Caxamar introduced the new image and new product lines for the domestic and professional markets.
