This year the Ponte da Barca and Arcos de Valdevez Winery was selected to receive an entourage from the Viticulture Commission of the Vinho Verde Region (CVRVV) and ASAE, which traveled to Ponte da Barca to guarantee the genuineness of the grapes that originate the renowned wines from this Winery, thus giving added meaning to the brand’s signature ‘A Origem Conta’ (The Origin Counts). In the words of José Oliveira, the Winery’s managing director and winemaker, “it is important for people to know about these inspection actions, which prove the existence of a control of the quality and origin of the grapes from the Demarcated Region”.
In the words of Pedro Gaspar, ASAE inspector general, who was present at the Winery, this is a “usual control and supervision operation in the wine sector, a sector that ASAE considers fundamental”. The objective of these actions is to guarantee the quality of the process and the final result of the products.
Manuel Pinheiro, president of CVRVV, predicts a good quality harvest, but with a slight drop in production compared to 2018, totaling about 70 million liters of Vinho Verde. Ponte da Barca and Arcos de Valdevez Winery exports to 32 markets and produces over three million bottles per year. It has been caring for a unique wine and cultural heritage for almost six decades, located in a unique territory crossed by the Lima, Vade and Vez rivers.
